AMD Eyes CES 2013 To Show Off Windows 8 Tablets Using Hondo Z-60 Chip

Both Intel and AMD were late to assess the possibility of mobile chips. Intel chips have started to show up in mobile devices lately. But, AMD hasn’t gained much till now.

Lately, AMD has unveiled its Z-60 Hondo APU earlier this month. But, the chip maker has won only one design till now – Fujitsu Stylistic Q572. AMD isn’t giving up though. The chipmaker claims that it has earned around 6 to 19 design wins for the Z-60 Hondo chip.

AMD is also working on its next generation mobile chips – Kabini and Tamesh. These Jaguar architecture based chips will bring performance and battery life improvements.

But, consumers usually don’t bother about processor or performance when buying tablets. Convincing the tablet makers, and ultimately the consumers, to settle on AMD architecture would be hard.
