According to HTC’s official Twitter account HTC confirmed that they will be waiting for Android 3.0 Honeycomb source code to be released before updating their upcoming HTC Flyer 7-inch tablet to the first Android OS meant for tablets. The Flyer in it’s current form runs on Android 2.4 Gingerbread OS with HTC Sense UI customizations over it.In the message HTC doesn’t say when the update will come but that isn’t really all their fault. Earlier this week Google announced they would be holding off the release of the official source code for Android 3.0 Honeycomb OS for an unspecified amount of time.Google has stated they did not feel the operating system was completed thus they needed more time to finish it. Android OS is an open source operating system, so Google will have to release the source code for Android 3.0 at some point.The HTC Flyer is expected to launch in Q2 2011 and boasts of a 1.5GHz single core processor (when other tablet developers are aiming for dual core processors), 1GB RAM, 32GB flash storage expandable via microSD card, aluminium unibody construction, 7-inch display with 1024 x 600 resolution, 5MP rear camera, 1.3MP front facing camera and 4000mAh battery.The HTC Flyer is expected to be launched by HTC shortly through two official sources. Best Buy will exclusively offer the Wi-Fi only version of the tablet in the US and Sprint will carry a 4G WiMAX equipped version of the tablet but under the name HTC EVO View 4G in the US too. Pricing hasn’t been announced officially by either of those two retailers or HTC at this time.
