The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is responsible for spreading the news about important events to the USA citizens via Mobile Messages. It does this via two protocols- Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) and Emergency Alert System (EAS) The WEA system is used to warn the public about dangerous weather, missing children, and other critical situations through alerts on cell phones, which includes Tornado Warning and AMBER Alert. Although you can turn off receiving AMBER Alerts, you cannot opt-out of other important nation-wide alerts, the most important of which is the Presidential Alert.
