London Finally Gets The Top-Level .london Domain

Top-level domains are all the rage these days. Since recently the likes of NYC have secured their own top level domains, London has decided to join the big bandwagon. The domain regulatory body ICANN has now given the green signal for the top-level domain .london which will be made available in 2014.

.london

The new domain will primarily be open to London-based businesses, organizations and individuals who can finally show off their premier global location in their URLs. The top-level domain will be made available in the Spring of 2014.

Excitement among notable London-based businesses is palpable over this announcement. Many well-known companies such as Selfridges and Carnaby Street have already shown an eager interest in signing up for a .london address.

According to the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, “Adopting the .london suffix will enable organisations to more closely associate themselves with our great city’s powerful global brand. This is also an excellent opportunity to expand London’s digital presence, which in turn is set to generate funds to invest back into the city.”

Although the primary preference will be given to entities which are physically present in the London city, anyone with a trademark registered within EU will be able to apply for the .london domain. A new website mydotlondon.com provides all the relevant information about the new domain. You can also sign up at this website to keep up with the latest updates on this.
