We have been hearing for a while that Microsoft has been working on integrating Skype with its email service, the Outlook.com. Now, the company has finally announced that the Skype-integrated Outlook.com is ready and available in U.S., UK, Germany, France, Canada and Brazil.
Skype is, without a doubt, one of the most popular online communication tools in the world right now. At the same time, Microsoft’s Outlook.com garners a huge audience, thanks in part to a recent rebranding of the service. Together, the two tools are the best of communication tools from Microsoft.
So the company’s plan to bring together the two is fairly genius. Skype is currently the most popular tool, especially for video chats. Imagine that you could launch Skype conversations right from your Outlook.com inbox – this could make things very convenient for the user.
With such an offering, Outlook.com is suddenly a step ahead of Gmail, its chief competitor in the arena. Gmail is certainly the most widely used email service, but by adding Skype on its side of the ledger, Microsoft’s Outlook.com currently appears more competent. Although Google has tried to pitch its Hangouts feature as a viable alternative, Skype still tops the list.
For now, Microsoft is offering this integrated version of Skype and Outlook.com in a limited few countries. However, over time, the company plans to offer it in many other regions in the coming days.
