Zuckerberg Says Rumors Of Teens Leaving Facebook Aren’t True

In the past, it has been frequently cited that the teenagers are no longer interested in Facebook. There have been many articles claiming that teens are starting to quit the social network. However, Mark Zuckerberg has now refuted such claims during the quarterly earnings call.

Zuckerberg started off by stating that “It’s difficult to measure this perfectly because some young people lie about their age.” However, he kept stating that the claims about teenagers leaving Facebook is not only exaggerated but absolutely false.

He then cited that the internal data of the social network clearly shows that the activity for teenagers has remained steady for more than a year or so. This does mean that there hasn’t been a significant growth in the teenager audience on Facebook. Zuckerberg claimed that if the statistics of Instagram are added to that of Facebook, it would show a positive growth for the number of teens hooked up to the platform.

In recent months, a number of other social networks and platforms have cropped up and some have mustered significant audiences. But, none of them is anywhere even close to have such huge audience as Facebook. So Zuckerberg was quite right when he dismissed them and said, “You could naively assume that more new services means people spend less time on Facebook. People on average are spending more time on Facebook than ever before.”
