Last week, we reported that Google was blocking a number of major websites on Chrome, citing that they were malware-infected. It later transpired that the malware had affected the ads network which was serving advertisements across those websites. Now, another wave of malware warnings have arrived, blocking another few high-profile websites.
The websites that have been blocked in the fresh spate of Chrome warnings includes the likes of The Boston Globe, The Verge, DeviantArt and even YouTube. No clear reason has been cited as to why these sites have been blocked except that this was due to the ‘content from us.bernerverein.ch.’
However, it may be that in this case too, the warning alarm has been triggered due to malware-infection of the ads network running on these websites. If this is the case, Google must remedy this problem soon. If an ads network is infested with malware, the websites running the ads from that service ought not be put under quarantine.
Of course the websites can still be accessed by continuing to them despite the malware warning, yet a warning from Google significantly affects users trying to reach a given site. There is also the possibility that these warnings may be a result of some other reason. Of that, we can be sure only once Google explains as to why it chose to issue malware warnings about them.
