Hacking Forums Start Selling The Stolen Target Credit Card Numbers

One of the biggest banking heist of recent times occurred when hackers were successful in making away with 40 million credit card numbers. It would now appear that these hackers are now selling the numbers at underground hacking forums.

Target credit card

The credit card numbers were stolen from Target stores around the country between November 27 and December 15. The retailer took some time to investigate the whole thing and alert the customers as well as the financial institutions.

Security researchers now report that the stolen credit card numbers are now up for sale at underground markets. The going price ranges from $20 to $100 per card and whoever is behind the heist is offering batches of one million cards.

The breach is very serious in that it puts the victims’ financial well-being at imminent danger. Hackers can use the credit card information to make purchases at a number of stores. Alternatively, if the information is of a debit card, the person with access to this information which includes user PINs can forge a new card and withdraw cash directly from an ATM.

The only hope to avoid being scammed and ripped of your money, if you are a Target customer, is that you take precautionary measures and talk to your banks about the potentially unauthorized use of your credit or debit card. Target says that it is working with top forensics analysts to not only determine the culprits behind the attack but also try and secure the affected customers.
