Apple Announces New Apple TV At iPad Event

Although the whole buzz about today’s Apple event primarily concerned iPad, Apple was able to surprise us yet again by taking the opportunity to unveil it’s all new Apple TV. This is great news for many but at the same time, a disappointment for those who have been expecting Apple to reveal an LCD display television. For now, Apple plans to stick to set-top boxes and the new version of Apple TV is able to output 1080p HD video.

Before Apple went on to unveil a really cool, upgraded and extra-ordinary new iPad which strangely hasn’t been named, Tim Cook went to the stage and revealed the new Apple TV. The physical dimensions of the devices have remained unchanged. You can still easily hold it in a single hand.

What has really changed is the fact that now Apple TV is able to output 1080p HD video, unlike the earlier version which supported 720p video output. This is perfectly in line with the abilities of the new iPad which can record HD video and has can easily run 1080p video content. So now, if you want  to run 1080p content on your new iPad and then have it displayed on your Apple TV through AirPlay, all of that is possible with the new devices unveiled by Apple today.

The iTunes also currently supports 1080p quality video content and users can now easily access all their content through iCloud. Apple is really moving towards a 1080p ecosystem where all it’s devices, including iPad, Apple TV and all related services such as iTunes, iCloud are able to support 1080p content.

The price for Apple TV remains unchanged, tagged at $99. It will hit the shelves at the same time as the new iPad i.e. on March 16th. However, you can pre-order it starting from today.
