Apple Leads The Tablet And Mobile PC Market With Highest Market Shares

Mobile computing devices are increasingly replacing the regular PCs. While PCs still remain the mainstream mode of computing, the mobile platform has experienced an explosive growth in the recent years. And at the head of this growth is Apple, holding the largest market share in both the mobile PC and tablet market.

During the first quarter, Apple shipped out a total of 17.2 million mobile PCs in total. Mobile PC, according to the definition held in the tech world, constitutes of notebooks, mini-notebooks and tablets. The total shipments during the quarter, by all the vendors combined, mounted up to 76.2 million. This puts Apple’s share at 22.5 percent, which is well ahead of any other contemporary.

HP trailed Apple’s share with its 11.6 percent while Acer fell back with 9 percent of market share. Naturally, the primary reason why Apple is so far ahead in the lead is because of the wild success of its flagship tablet, iPad.

During the first quarter, Apple shipped  out 13.6 million tablets! This constituted a major portion of the total tablet shipments that happened during the first quarter, putting Apple’s tablet market share at 62.8 percent, thus making it the undisputed king of the tablet market.

Samsung, considered the chief rival of Apple in mobile devices, seems to be struggling in the tablet market with its 7.5 percent market share while Amazon stands at 4 percent.

Although Apple still stands well ahead of its rival in terms of market share, the cumulative effect of its rival is starting to show on Apple’s numbers and Apple’s share has slightly dipped in the mobile PC market from 26.6 percent to 22.5 percent over a quarter.
