IT Expenditure To Increase 3% To $3.6 Trillion In 2012

Industry analysis expert Gartner recently published analytics on Information Technology expenditure for 2012 which reveals 3 percent increase of total spending than last year. According to the report, the expenditure may hit to $3.6 trillion. This report is a reviewed analysis upon high demand by the companies as 2.5 percent increase projected three months ago. This rapid growth seems strange despite the unstable global economy. The companies are also concerned with this report and eventually the pressure will be imposed on the public.

Gartner research vice president Richard Gordon said, “While the challenges facing global economic growth persist — the eurozone crisis, weaker US recovery, a slowdown in China — the outlook has at least stabilized. There has been little change in either business confidence or consumer sentiment in the past quarter, so the short-term outlook is for continued caution in IT spending.”

Booming spending on Cloud service is expected though this portion is relatively small with comparison to total spending. 20 percent rise on the cloud service spending has been projected, from $91 billion in 2011 to $109 billion in 2012. By 2016, Gartner said, this expenditure could nearly double, to $207 billion.

Spending on telecommunication will also be increased due to continuous growth of competition & the use of high end devices. According to Gartner, companies would spend $1.69 trillion on telecommunications this year, up only 1.4 percent from 2011. $377 billion will be invested on telecom equipment also which will see 10.8 percent increases.

Gordon also cited, “Business process as a service still accounts for the vast majority of cloud spending by enterprises, but other areas such as platform as a service, software as a service and infrastructure as a service are growing faster.” More than 200 business and technology analysts worldwide made this forecasting report.
