Wireless Industry Works On Making Wi-Fi Hot Spot Access Easier In The Coming Days

GSM Association is the association that represents the wireless carriers all around the globe. GSMA and Wireless Broadband Alliance have now announced that they may be collaborating to simplify the ways in which users can connect their smartphones and tablets to a Wifi hot spot. According to the announcement, initiative will be based upon ‘technical and commercial frameworks.’

Given the activations of millions of smartphone and tablets by each passing month, a lot of organizations have launched initiatives to improve Wi-Fi standards so that devices can easily discover and connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot.

According to the senior director of technology at GSMA, “The proliferation of smartphones and tablets around the world, as well as consumers’ huge appetite for data means innovative solutions need to be explored to make using the Internet as convenient and as accessible as possible. Through combining the proven capabilities of Mobile Broadband and Wi-Fi technologies, users will have the freedom to move between networks with ease.”

Currently, using internet over a Wi-Fi hot spot is quite a hassle for a lot of users. It requires configuration of different settings and then, different devices have different rights to access a certain service. With the initiatives working to improve it, we can definitely hope that sometime soon in the future, surfing the web over a Wi-Fi won’t be that hard.

The organizations working on improving Wi-Fi connectivity are very ambitious. The CTO of one such organization, Boingo, said ‘This will make using Wi-Fi as easy as when you arrive in another country and turn on your phone, and your phone automatically discovers a new network for you to use. Subscribers don’t really need to know nor do they care what network they’re on. They just want it to work.’

Given the sheer number of projects that have been launched to this end and now GSMA and WBA actively collaborating to accomplish the same, we can safely assume that Wi-Fi connectivity will be lot better within the next few years.
