Amazon Confirmed Kindle apps for Android and Windows Tablets

Amazon has announced that it plans to release free Kindle apps for devices running either operating system.The new Kindle apps built for Android and Windows tablet computers will let customers “Buy Once, Read Everywhere”–on Kindle, Kindle 3G, Kindle DX, iPad, iPod touch, iPhone, Mac, PC, BlackBerry, and Android-based devices.

In an increasingly competitive market for digital readers, Amazon has been able to stay competitive by diversifying beyond the Kindle device. Other competitors include Barnes and Noble’s Nook, the Apple iPad application iBooks and the Kobo Reader.

The apps are expected to be free and will allow users to download books or continue reading books they’ve already purchased on their Kindle or other Kindle App enabled devices. For more information on Kindle apps, visit www.amazon.com/kindleapps.
