Android Jelly Bean Reaches 13.6% Devices, Gingerbread Still Leads With 45% Share

It has been quite a while since Google released its latest Android iteration, namely Jelly Bean. However, the latest version has still been adopted only by 13.6% of the total Android devices. That may look bleak but Jelly Bean seems to be picking up, having passed the 10% mark only last month. Gingerbread still dominates with 45% of the Android market share.

These numbers have been released by Google at its Android developers dashboard. According to the search giant, Android Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) also holds a significant 29% of the market share. However, that is a tad bit disappointing because in terms of its share in earlier months, ICS’s growth has virtually halted. On the other hand, Jelly Bean is steadily gaining foot.

Gingerbread may still be running on most Android devices but its share is declining in the market, which is a healthy sign. Given the performance of both Gingerbread and ICS in terms of market share growth, we can expect a rather sharp rise in the adoption rate of Android Jelly Bean.

Another nagging factor, though, is that it is expected that Google may launch the next major Android release, Key Lime Pie, later this year. The release may further fragment the Android platform and can slow down the adoption rate of Jelly Bean.
