Android To Windows Phone API Mapping Tool

Microsoft releases Android developer poaching package for Windows Phone 7 and the little fellow helped iPhone devs out a couple of months ago with an API mapping tool to make it easier to translate iPhone APIs to WP7 code. With the next version of Windows Phone Mango, bringing along with it a ton of new APIs, it looks like Microsoft won’t have to worry about the size of its Windows Marketplace…………

Microsoft has launched an application which will help bring popular apps from the Android Market to the Windows Phone 7 based phones and the new Android Application porting API (Application Programming Interface) will provide a simpler and an easier way of porting applications to the Windows Phone 7 environment. It will also help developers from the hassles of recoding the application from the scratch thereby saving a considerable amount of effort and also making the applications available in a shorter span of time in the process. The customers will be benefited at large as now they can expect a larger and more popular number of applications in the Windows Phone 7 marketplace. The process of porting an application and the way to use the API has been described in the white-papers that are being provided along with the API package. The Interface has not been kept as open source but is open for comments and suggestions related to the designing environment or the application interface as well. There is also help by the name of the “App Guy” which will crawl through popular developer focused forums and websites to help them with the problem relating to the new API. As of now the porting is only available for iOS and Android operating system that too for just the Windows Phone 7 platform but the inclusion of Mango update is also under way and some results can also be expected soon.
