Android Users Now Have Their Own Wikipedia App

Just several days ago, the largest encyclopedia online, Wikipedia, expanded its availability for the massive army of Android devices users. The free encyclopedia containing 20 million articles in 280 languages submitted the dedicated app on Android Market. The official Wikipedia app for Android comes with a set of features including Save article to read later or offline, Search articles nearby, Share articles using Android “Share” function, Read article in a different language, Full screen search.


The app is available for devices running on Android 2.2 and later. In 8 days of availability on Android Market, Wikipedia app has been rated by over 1000 users and got almost the highest ranking (four stars and a half out of five).

Wikipedia released a similar app for iOS environment since 2009 and it was updated on January 10th. Here, the app is advertised as “focused on being very simple and very fast”. Wikipedia app from iTunes is available in English, Dutch, Hungarian, Japanese and it is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running on iOS 3.0 and up. The version 2.2.1 delivered crash and bug fixes and dedicated geo services.
