In-App Subscriptions For Google Play Launched By Google

Google has working hard to improve its Google Play platform, so as to pitch it effectively enough against Apple’s popular App Store. While Google Play still has a lot of catching up to do, the good thing is that Google is regularly adding newer and better features to its platform. Now, for instance, Google has added the option of in-app subscriptions for Google Play.

This means great news for developers who will now have additional options to monetize their content on Google Play. Google already made available option of in-app billing a year ago and the feature had been a massive success.

This is evident in a blog post at Android Developers blog, “Since the launch, In-app Billing has been extremely successful in helping developers monetize their apps through try-and-buy, virtual goods, upgrades, and other popular business models. Today, 23 of the 24 top-grossing apps in Google Play use In-app Billing, and the total revenue generated from in-app purchases exceeds revenue from traditional app purchases.”

It is by banking on the success of in-app billing that Google decided it needed to take a step further still and introduce in-app subscriptions. The option will be available for games as well as other apps and will allow the developers to generate new revenue streams.

The blog post further states, “Starting today, developers can use In-app Billing to sell monthly or annual subscriptions from inside of their apps. All subscriptions are auto-renewing, for every app and game and every type of subscription product. Developers just set the price and billing interval and Google Play manages the purchase transactions for them, just as it does for other in-app products and app purchases.”

To view their subscriptions and to cancel them, users can simply navigate to the ‘My Apps’ section in Google Play.
