More Details and Specifications About the Upcoming Radeon HD 7970

Last week we got the initial details about the Radeon HD 7900 and now a bunch of new pictures leaked and can be found all across the web, detailing some key features concerning it.  For the past five generations, AMD GPUS have worked with VLIW core arrangements, and even their latest VLIW5 brought forth by Radeon HD 6900 series represented more of an evolution. CoreNext added the VLIW stream processor with super-scalar Graphics Compute cores that should translate to a higher performance per mm² die-area.

By looking at the leaked slides, the Radeon HD 7970 will be based on a 28nm process size with an incredible architecture featuring a new tweak called Eyefinity 3D. The Eyefinity 3D is still your average Eyefinity with added support for 3D 120Hz displays. There’s also Dolby Digital Master (DDM) audio support coming, 5×1 landscape layout mode, AMD’s HD3D technology and the possibility of running custom resolutions.

The AMD Radeon HD 7970 card will have a 3GB of GDDR5 memory working at 5.5GHz featuring 12 memory chips and 384-bit memory bus. The GPU core clock will sustaining all operations at 925Mhz having a 128 texture units, 32 Compute Units and 2048 ALUs. The price set is rumored to be somewhere around $549 for the HD 7970 and $499 for the slower HD 7950.
