Facebook Starts Rolling Out App Center

We recently reported that the largest social network on the web, Facebook, was about to launch an App Center of its own from where users will be able to discover Facebook apps in a far better way. Also, Facebook seems to have plans of enticing developers to join the App Center. And now, the company has finally launched the App Center, although to a limited number of users.

For now, not all users are able to access the App Center. However soon, all users will be able to access it and initially, they will be able to access 600 Facebook apps at the Center. The good news for the users is that for now, all the apps which will be available in the App Center will be free.  However, over time, Facebook has plans of offering paid apps from its partners in the coming days.

What is the benefit for the user in using App Center? For one, it will make discovering relevant apps extremely easy for Facebook users. Imagine all Facebook apps tucked neatly under their respective categories such as Music, Entertainment, Lifestyle, Games. These apps will essentially live on your Facebook page.

According to Facebook communications manager, “We wanted a place to put all of the apps. The App Center is now full of very high quality apps that are easy for Facebook users to find.

Users are able to access the App Center by clicking ‘App Center’ tab on the left side of Facebook’s home page. Moreover, users will also get ‘intelligent app recommendations’ based on the popular apps among one’s social circle. However, despite earlier speculations, Facebook says that it is not introducing a competitor to the likes of App Store, rather it will simply be routing traffic to online app stores.
