LG Sells More Than 1 Million Optimus G Smartphones

LG has tried hard over the years to gain a sizable foothold into the smartphone market but it hasn’t exactly succeeded. The company has launched a number of high-end smartphones in recent past. At least one of these, namely Optimus G, seems to have picked up some success, with LG announcing that it has now sold more than 1 million Optimus G smartphones.

While that number may seem rather significant, let’s not forget that LG launched the smartphone nearly a year back. So the sales of one million units over the course of one year isn’t exactly that huge an achievement when compared to the sales of other high-end smartphones such as iPhone and Galaxy S III.

To give you a fair comparison, Apple was able to sell more than 5 million iPhone 5 units during the opening weekend alone. Samsung has also recently crossed the 40 million mark for Galaxy S III sales. So in view of all that, LG’s one million sales seem rather bit tiny.

LG also divulged recently that it has been able to sell one million Optimus Vu tablets in South Korea since the launch of the tablet. These numbers are indeed small in the wider context of the smartphone and tablet arena, but it goes on to show that despite the overwhelming dominance of Apple and Samsung in the mobile arena, LG too has a small share.
