Now Emirates Passengers Can Use Cellphones During Flight

Although airlines usually provide a number of facilities during flight, it is often disgruntling to know that you can’t use your cellphone during flight. The service is usually not offered due to a multitude of reasons. However, the Dubai-based airline, Emirates, has now stated that it will soon allow passengers aboard its A380 planes to make calls using their cellphones during flight.

Emirates

According to Emirates, this service will be available on standard phones. The feature will be made available by OnAir, which provides in-flight Wi-Fi for A380 plane.

While this may come as a good news for A380 passengers, Emirates may still have to undergo a number of problems due to this. As per the federal regulations in the U.S., any plane flying within the nations territory can’t make use of in-flight cellphones to make calls. The U.S. authorities are fairly strict in implementing these regulations, so Emirates will have to disable the feature while flying over U.S.

Similarly, if any other country has such federal regulations which prohibit in-flight use of cellphones, Emirates will have to act accordingly and disable the feature when flying over any such country. Nonetheless, the company seems fairly hopeful with the new feature.

According to the Vice President of Emirates, Patrick Brannelly, “Beginning in 1993 with first passenger satellite phone service to last year with our A380 Wi-Fi system, Emirates has always taken the approach that providing the latest in inflight service and connectivity is a key part of our passengers’ journey. Emirates continues to invest in the most innovative technology possible and promises to keep pushing the boundaries of the inflight innovation for the benefit of our passengers”
