According To Reports, Windows RT License Will Cost $85

As we move closer to the release of Microsoft’s much-anticipated Windows 8 and Windows RT, a number of speculations and reports are surfacing about the two. Just to make things clear, Windows RT is the version that will be running on ARM hardware. Now, some reports have pegged a price range for Windows RT.

Windows RT will reportedly cost a cool $80 to $95 for OEMs to license. This was hinted at when VR-Zone sought the estimates of different companies to discern the possible cost differences that will be between Android slates and machines running Windows RT.

However, if this report indeed turns out to be true, it spells some not very good predictions for Microsoft. For a start, this would raise the cost of Windows RT tablets by a huge margin – potentially, a few hundred dollars. And that, in comparison to much cheaper Android tablet, will be a huge disadvantage for a platform that would be entering the tablet market.

What remains to be seen is that will Microsoft do anything about it or will it let things be, in which case Windows RT tablets may prove too pricey to be affordable for most people.
