Microsoft Finally Releases Windows 8.1 To Manufacturers

We have been waiting for the Windows 8.1 for a while now. In the past, it had been rumored that Microsoft will release it to manufacturers by the end of August. The company has made good on that promise, although we’re not sure if users are also going to get it by October.

Released-to-manufacturing (RTM) builds are meant to denote such version of a software which is released to the manufacturers. According to internal Microsoft emails, it appears that RTM has been finalized and shipped to a number of manufacturers.

However, it isn’t clear exactly on what date did Microsoft release the build to its partners. It did happen within the last few days or so, for sure. The original target of the company was to release the RTM build by August 26 but apparently, Microsoft was able to speed things up and release it ahead of the schedule.

The RTM build will not be released to anyone else until Microsoft officially lifts the wraps off Windows 8.1. This means that no one, apart from Microsoft’s OEM partners, gets to see exactly what is being offered in the new version.

The official release of the new version is October 18, although we are not sure if the release would also bring the new OS to users and developers too. What can be said with somewhat confidence is that the actual release of Windows 8.1 will take place in the month of October.

I don’t know a single customer or any other person that’s actually “waiting” for Windows 8.1…

Most would prefer to order their new computer with Windows 7.

Computer manufacturers might be the only ones on the planet who give a crap if or when Windows 8.1 shows up.
