Windows 8 Unable To Bolster Tablet Or PC Sales, Surface RT Tablet Orders Decline

Microsoft had pinned a lot of hopes on its new operating system, Windows 8. The company had especially expected to finally gain foothold in the tablet market with Windows 8 tablets. However, that doesn’t seem to be happening, sources within Microsoft’s supply chain claim.

Windows 8

Microsoft has spent a whole lot of money in advertising Windows 8 and machines based on this new OS. However, that doesn’t seem to be helping the case of the software giant. Despite expectations, the overall sales of Window-based PCs or tablets hasn’t increased even after the launch of Windows 8.

The sales figures for Windows 8 PCs and laptops have continued to decline after the launch of the new OS. The sales of Windows 8 tablets, which arrived alongside the OS, have also registered little success over the past few weeks, says a new research by NPD.

According to the vice president of industry analysis at NPD, Stephen Baker, “After just four weeks on the market, it’s still [too] early to place blame on Windows 8 for the ongoing weakness in the PC market. We still have the whole holiday selling season ahead of us, but clearly Windows 8 did not prove to be the impetus for a sales turnaround some had hoped for.”

Microsoft had hoped that it could turn around the tide with its Surface tablets but even on that front, no good news have arrived. Sources within Microsoft’s supply chain have now divulged that the orders for Surface RT tablets have cut in half over recent weeks.

A similar fate seem to have met Windows RT tables offered by other hardware vendors. None has gained much traction and the demand is not going to get any better in the coming days. Will Windows 8 turn out to be a disappointment for the company? At least as far as the tablet market is concerned, that seems to be the case.
