Kinect Sets Guinness World Record For Fastest-Selling Consumer Electronics Device

Microsoft has released a press release of the latest Kinect sells report. According to the Guinness World Records team, Kinect, for the Xbox 360, is now officially the Fastest-Selling Consumer Electronics Device. 8 million Kinects were sold in the first two months – an average of 130,000 a day.

In January, at CES in Las Vegas, Microsoft announced that the Kinect had shipped more than 8 million units–and that Xbox 360 sales had topped 50 million.

According to the beer-backed record book, the Kinect averaged 133,333 units sold per day for a total of 8 million units between November 4, 2010, and January 3, 2011- making it the fastest selling device in its first 60 days on the market. This includes a significantly larger and faster sales t
han the iPhone and iPad in the same amount of time.

“The sales figures here speak for themselves. We can confirm that no other consumer electronics device sold faster within a 60-day time span, an incredible achievement considering the strength of the sector.” – Editor of Guinness World Records 2011 Gamer’s Edition, Gaz Deaves

These numbers mean MS shifted more Kinects than Apple sold iPads or iPhones during their first 60 days of being on sale.
