Intel Unveils 510 Series SSD for Gamers

Intel has announced the latest solid-state drive (SSD) family in its product line: the Intel SSD 510 Series, which is also the company’s first to use the 6-Gbps SATA III interface. This newly drive is made in 2.5-inch form factor and supports SATA 6.0 Gbps interface.

The 510 Series SSDs are constructed using Intel’s 34nm NAND Flash memory, and are targeted at gamers, enthusiasts, and professionals (particularly media creators) who need fast transfer rates. Intel claims the 510 Series is just one of a number of major SSD products it plans to introduce in 2011.

The Intel 510 Series SSD is comes in two models 120GB and 250GB of capacity storage. It is capable to delivering read and write speeds of up to 450 MB/s and 210 MB/s for 120GB model, 500 MB/s and 315 MB/s for 250GB version.

Intel 510 Series SSD has features up to 20,000/8,000 IOPS for a random 4kB read/write performance, a MTBF of 1.2 million hours, TRIM support, and used 34nm NAND Flash memory chips.

The cost of Intel 510 120GB SSD is $284, while the 250GB model is $584.
