Antennagate Lawsuit Settled, Apple Will Pay iPhone Buyers $15 Or A Free Bumper

When Apple release iPhone 4, it was no doubt a huge success. However, with such a large user base, the slightest flaw in the device doesn’t go unnoticed. The result was that a number of users complained about poor reception of signals when they gripped the antenna. As a result, a number of lawsuits were filed against Apple. Now, Apple has finally reached a settlement over this case, agreeing to pay all iPhone 4 buyers $15 or a free bumper.

The official allegation that was filed against Apple read, “misrepresenting and concealing material information in the marketing, advertising, sale, and servicing of its iPhone 4–particularly as it relates to the quality of the mobile phone antenna and reception and related software.”

About 18 lawsuits were filed against Apple over this and now all these had been consolidated into one single case. The above verdict corresponds to this case. As per the settlement that has been reached, Apple is legally bound to send an email to all US buyers by April 30, 2012. In this email, Apple will tell them of the official settlement that has been reached so that all the iPhone 4 users become well aware that they are now entitled to $15 or a free bumper from Apple.

When the problem was originally highlighted by a number of users, Apple tried to dismiss it and said that there was no problem with the antenna reception. However, Apple handed away a free iPhone 4 case to somehow compensate the users. But now that it has been proved that there was actually a problem, Apple has been legally bound to pay the penalty. One hopes that such an instance ensures that in future, no such qualms are a part of so excellent a device from a company which believes in professionally competent products.
