Apple has been sued again for using Caller-ID technology in its Smartphone – iPhone. Apple is already fighting with Samsung & HTC over various patents infringement in its products worldwide. This time it’s a new company named Cequint Inc. The Seattle based data-network service provider accused Apple for illegal use of its own Caller-ID technology in iPhone. Apple is yet to make any official comment over the lawsuit.
Cequint is a data-network service provider based in The Seattle mainly focuses on caller-ID technology. It’s a sister concern of TNS. According to Bloomberg report, “Cequint Inc. of Seattle seeks unspecified damages and a court order to stop Apple’s use of the inventions, according to a complaint yesterday in federal court in Wilmington, Delaware.”
“Cequint has been damaged by Apple’s infringement” and “will be irreparably harmed” unless stopped by a judge, Cequint’s lawyers said in the complaint.
The Caller-ID technology of Cequint uses a unique technology that uses carrier-provided database to provide the right name of the calling party on the called party’s mobile set. It will show the name on the screen of the called party even though if the number is not stored in the address book. It also allows the user to add the number in the address book with a single click. Major telecom giants like AT&T, T-Mobile USA, Samsung and HTC are their corporate customers. Among them Apple is already engaged in multiple legal battles with HTC and Samsung.
If the accusation is right who knows Cequint is the next target of Apple for acquisition for its Caller-ID technology.
