Google Released Its Own YouTube Apps For iOS

Apple slashed the native YouTube app for iOS devices with its upcoming iOS 6. Since then, Google has been trying to present a viable solution to put YouTube back in iOS devices. Now, just ahead of the iPhone 5 launch event(probably iOS 6 release event too), Google has unveiled a new YouTube app which is available in Apple’s App Store.

However, it seems that Google has actually gained from Apple’s decisions. YouTube has been tweaking its smartphone apps to include more features, such as advertising. This was being done in an attempt to bring together the experiences of visiting YouTube on a web browser and on a smartphone.

With this new YouTube app for iPhone which Google has just unveiled, Google may witness a dip in the traffic. That would happen because users will have to download the app on their own rather than getting it from Apple by default.

However, in the long run, this will provide Google an opportunity to cash on the mobile traffic. Until now, YouTube couldn’t show advertisements alongside its videos on smartphones. But with the new app, advertisements will also be shown alongside the videos. And this can open up a fairly handsome revenue stream for Google.

According to YouTube, it gets 25 percent of its daily visits from mobile devices. Apple devices, naturally, will be contributing a major chunk of these mobile views. And with this new app, Google is on the way to monetize these views for the first time.
