Corning Made Stronger Gorilla Glass Incorporated With HP Envy 14 Spectre Ultrabook

HP introduced its new ultrabook HP Envy 14 Spectre yesterday on 2012 International CES in Las Vegas. The compelling feature of this riveting ultrabook is the integration of Gorilla Glass. Corning’s Gorilla Glass is already featured in the smartphones like iPhone 4. But for the first time ever glass-covered laptop is going to be unveiled for the consumers.

According to HP, Gorilla Glass will make the laptop more scratch-resistant and lightweight enough to still weigh less than 4 pounds. But glass made the device to be a concern of shattering also though the look & design will belittle that concern.

According to Corning, the much stronger new Gorilla Glass lets the screens be made 20 percent thinner which will improve brightness, touch response, and of course device thickness. Corning said in a statement, “Product qualification and design implementation for Corning Gorilla Glass 2 are under way with Corning’s global customers, a number of whom are expected to unveil new devices using Corning Gorilla Glass 2 during the coming months.”

HP Envy 14 Spectre is 20mm-thick with 14-inch display. It also features a multi-touch-enabled touchpad, Beats Audio, a HP Radiance backlit keyboard that lights up when you approach it. HP promises Intel Core i5 and i7 processor options, either 4GB or 8GB of RAM, and 128GB or 256GB solid state storage inside the Spectre.

HP Envy 14 Spectre is supported with NFC chip that can be paired with an Android phone for very close-range wireless communication. The device will be available from February 8. To have this, you have to spend $1,400. Pre-order can be done from HP website.

The first HP Envy 14 Spectre will feature an Intel Core i5-2467M processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 128GB SSD drive, Ethernet, USB 3.0, HDMI, Mini DisplayPort, HP Wireless Audio, Bluetooth, WiDi, and NFC.

The statement “But for the first time ever glass-covered laptop is going to be unveiled for the consumers” is not right. You should say it to be the “first Gorilla glass covered ultrabook” instead. Because, I have seen Gorilla glass to be used in ThinkPad X1 laptops before.
