Google Chromebooks Now Used In 2,000 Schools, Usage Doubled In 3 Months

To bring computing power to the students, online charity DonorsChoose.org along with Google, started selling Samsung Series 5 Chromebooks for students and school teachers at $99 from December 10, 2012. With such low price, it was for sure that Google Chromebook would create a buzz, and they did. Now the machines are used in 2,000 schools, according to Google.

Normally, general public including students and teachers could get a Samsung Series 5 Chromebook for $249. But DonorsChoose and Google, started to sell Samsung Series 5 Chromebooks online just for students and full-time public school teachers in the U.S. for $99, which was a giant discount to the normal price. Students and teachers from more than 1,000 schools grabbed the offer immediately. As a result, within 24 hours all $99 Google Chromebooks were sold out. Later, Google and DonorsChoose announced that they were not taking any more orders for those $99 Google Chromebooks.

Students Using $99 Google Chromebooks

No doubt, $99 Google Chromebooks successfully created a big buzz among the students and teachers. But in how many schools these $99 Google Chromebooks are being used? According to Google, $99 Google Chromebooks are now being used in 2,000 schools. It has been found that, Transylvania County Schools in North Carolina has 900 Chromebook branded devices, St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Florida has 2,200 and the Rocketship Education charter network in the Bay Area has 1,100 devices of $99 Google Chromebooks. Usage of Chromebook have doubled in 3 months.
