Lenovo Releases Touchscreen Version Of ThinkPad X1 Carbon

Lenovo’s ThinkPad X1 Carbon ultrabooks have been around for a while. The company has now decided to ship out yet another version of the same model. The highlight of the new version is that it is touchscreen and specifically designed to run Windows 8.

ThinkPad X1 Carbon

Such a machine from Lenovo had been rumored for a while but until now, the company had divulged no details. Today, it has finally revealed the details about this new touchscreen version of ThinkPad X1 Carbon.

Like the normal X1 Carbon models, this one features an Ivy Bridge processor, 1600 x 900 display resolution and built-in 3G and backlit ThinkPad keyboard. Given the fact that it packs a touchscreen which the regular X1 Carbon doesn’t, the price is a bit higher – it starts from $1499.

A slight downside of this model is that it is a tab bit bulky, apparently due to the touchscreen. The non-touch model is 18mm thick and weighs 3 pounds whereas according to Lenovo, the touchscreen version weighs less than 3.5 pounds and is 20.8mm thick.

According to the President of Lenovo Product Group, Peter Hortensuis, “Bringing touch gesture control to our best ThinkPad ever is a natural evolution of the portfolio and a big step towards fulfilling our promise to bring computers into a new PC+ era. We are excited to be able to offer customers the best experience in a thin and light business class Ultrabook. The X1 Carbon Touch is the Ultrabook to beat.”

Lenovo’s build quality and design details are kinda clunky in comparison to Samsung’s perfect fit and design.

But Lenovo’s keyboards are still better, thanks to understanding the need for concave key surfaces for fast touch typing.
