A Coca-Cola Powered Mobile Phone For Nokia

We all are familiar with the world’s top beverage — Coca-Cola. But do we know, except quenching our thirst, what Coca-Cola can do? Coca-Cola can recharge a phone’s battery. A Chinese designer Daizi Zheng has come up with a new concept of charging cellphones with Coca-Cola. Get the amazing details below.

Usually cellphones use lithium-ion batteries. But lithium-ion batteries are quite expensive, harmful to the environment and difficult to dispose off. Hence, in a project to build a eco-friendly phone, Chinese Designer Daizi Zheng decided to use bio-degradable batteries instead of lithium-ion batteries.

A bio-battery has the ability to use enzymes as a catalyst to generate electricity from carbohydrates. In order to use the bio-battery as a power source for the phone, the batter just need a sugary/sweet drink (it could be Coke, Pepsi, even sugar-sweetened water). Zheng used a small supply of Coca-Cola and the battery started charging. According to Zheng, bio-battery lasts up to four times longer than a fully charged lithium battery and is much easier to recharge. Whenever the battery gets empty, just need to pour some more sweetened solution like Coke, Pepsi or sugar-mixed water. If commercialized, Zheng will definitely inspire a new way to look at batteries and cold drinks.
