Elderly E Phone – A Phone That Changes How We Make Phone Calls

In old age, most elders tend to have a lot of difficulty in finding phone numbers in a directory or trying to dial them on their handsets. To make things easier for them, Professor Dai Yunting and his team has created a new handset design concept called ‘Elderly E Phone’ which essentially uses the ‘tagging’ technology to enable instant phone number discovery and dialing.

Elderly E Phone

This is how the handset works:

First, the user has to add the phone numbers of all the contacts as well as the corresponding photographs of each individual. The handset comes equipped with an image finder.

Now, all the user has to do is hover the image finder above the photograph of the person he/she wants to call. The phone would automatically identify the face and search through the directory, finding the phone number saved with the same face. Once the phone identifies the face, the user simply has to press ‘OK’ and the number will be dialed.

Of course there are other, even better, ways of automatically dialing the number of a given user. For instance, a user can record the names of all his contacts, in his own voice. Now, whenever one wishes to dial the number of any of these contacts, all one needs to do is say out the name of the person to be called. The handset would, in turn, process the voice-command, match it with the contacts list and find the desired number.

Elderly E Phone may not be too innovative, but the overall design of the handset has won the hearts of many, including critics, earning it the design concept award in a contest.
