Kyocera Unveils New Torque Utra-Rugged 4G LTE Android Smartphone

Japanese company Kyocera has unveiled a new extremely rugged Android smartphone called Torque. The device is drop-proof and water proof, and it supports 4G.

The Kyocera Torque is built to conform with 810G Military Standard, promising that the device will be able to survive dust, shock, vibration, solar radiation, humidity, rain, low pressure, salt fog, and extreme temperatures. It weighs 157g (5.54 ounce) and measures 113 mm x 60.5 mm x 14.3 mm (4.44 x 2.38 x 0.56 inches). This smartphone runs Android 4.1 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and features 4-inch WVGA IPS display with Gorilla Glass 2, a 1.2GHz dual-core MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 Plus processor, 1GB RAM, 4GB internal memory (expandable up to 32GB via MicroSD card slot).

Besides, the phone has a 5MP rear camera and a 1.3MP front facing camera and a 2,500mAh battery that can provide 18.9 hours of talk time. In addition, the phone supports NFC, WiFi b/g/n 2.4GHz, Bluetooth 4.0+LE/EDR, HD Voice. The phone also supports push to talk technology.

The Kyocera Torque can resist water entering its inside for 30 minutes when submerged into up to one meter under water. That’s not all. The device can handle temperature ranging from -4°F (-20°C) to 122°F (50°C). It is claimed that Kyocera Torque is the first smartphone in America supporting the new Smart Sonic Receiver Technology that is able to transmit sound as vibrations that are carried through body tissue directly to the eardrum and inner ear for sound clarity even in noisy environments.

The device will launch on the Sprint network on March 8 for $99.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and a new two-year contract.
