MWC 2012: Samsung Galaxy S II Wins The Best Smartphone Award

Mobile World Congress 2012 has been unveiling to the world some truly amazing works of technology. While that remains the limelight of the event, other events are also on the go side by side. For instance, GSMA has also announced the winners of the 17th Annual Global Mobile awards, at the event at Barcelona. The most notable announcement of the awards was that Samsung Galaxy S II beat Apple’s iPhone 4S to grab the best smartphone award.

It would be significant to note that last year, iPhone beat the rest of its contemporaries to bag the very same award. However, Samsung was able to scoop it away with its Galaxy S II. Samsung has also won the Device Manufacturer of the Year award, beating HTC who won the award last year. Clearly, Samsung has made improvements, both on its products and it’s reach, as is manifest in the results of the awards.

At the awards ceremony, the Chief Marketing Officer of GSMA said, “The 2012 Global Mobile Awards continue to showcase the greatest, most creative and innovative products and services driving the mobile ecosystem today and into the future. With a record number of high calibre entries this year, it is a significant achievement to have been honoured in today’s ceremony. The GSMA congratulates winners and commends all those taking part for raising the benchmark of contributions to mobile communications across the entire industry.”

The best smartphone award should have went to the iPhone. They said the award goes to the most innovative, well how could that be the galaxy when it’s a clone, substandard, of the iPhone. Actually there has been no innovation since the iPhone, well maybe just a couple of brave companies tried but that’s a good thing that more companies should try instead of following the exact blueprint of the next best thing. Instead of congratulating Samsung we the consumer should be disappointed at them for stymieing technology. Where would we be if everybody did this not just technology, now do you get it !!
