ZTE is perhaps one of the very few mobile companies which have witnessed a major growth in recent times. It witnessed a growth of terminal shipments by 50% in 2011 and was able to increase it’s smartphone shipments by a whopping 400%. Now at MWC 2012, ZTE is flaunting a number of new smartphone devices, which comprise of both Android and Windows Phone smartphones, with which it aims to break into world’s top smartphone markets.
The mid and top-range smartphone devices that ZTE has unveiled during MWC 2012 clearly show that the company is now targeting the top end markets. And, the ranges of devices unleashed by ZTE are of both platforms, Android and Windows Phone.
The true eye-catcher from its Android releases is ZTE Era, which is a Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone. ZTE is touting it as ‘one of the thinnest quad-core smartphones on the market today.” It features a 4.3-inch QHD screen and has high definition multimedia capabilities. Other Android releases from ZTE include Kis and Acqua which feature 3.5-inch and 4.0-inch displays respectively. ZTE Blade is also here with an upgraded processor of 1.0GHz. Another significant release for Android platform from ZTE is ZTE PF112 with a 4.5-inch high density screen.
ZTE has also revealed it’s ambitions to enter the Windows Phone market by introducing Windows Phone devices. These are mid-range smartphones, but they are a decent start for ZTE. ZTE Orbit comes with 5-megapixel camera and HD voice. ZTE Tania, another Windows Phone, was revealed by ZTE back in January, and ZTE Orbit seems an apt successor to its first release.
What ZTE is targeting right now, as spelled by the company itself, is to become the world’s third largest handset vendor by the end of 2015. By the sheer number of smartphones unveiled by ZTE at Barcelona and with the pace at which its shipments are growing, this goal may be a bit ambitious but seems possible too.
