Nokia Lumia Performs Better Than Galaxy S And iPhone 4 In Outdoor Readability Test

Nokia Lumia 900 is the best high-end smartphone that Nokia has shipped out, to date, and the Windows Phone world has great hopes with it. So far, the phone has experienced better sales than other Lumia devices but nothing too remarkable. However, it seems that there are indeed some things in which Lumia 900 is better than its other counterparts, Galaxy S and iPhone 4.

This has been demonstrated in a test that was carried out by DisplayMate labs. The test tried to find out which of three devices proves out to be best when used for outdoor reading. As it turns out, Nokia has made use of a special polarizing filter in the display of Lumia 900 which goes on to inhibit the effect of reflectance. The technology, or the brand, is known as ClearBlack Display.

The surprising thing is that Nokia has been able to deliver an excellent outdoor readability experience with minimum reflectance on Lumia 9o0 even when the device makes use of an AMOLED display. Conventionally, AMOLED displays are considered really bad for outdoor reading, as is also demonstrated in the displays of some HTC devices. But the fact that Lumia 900 offers great readability even when making use of AMOLED display.

The second position has been grabbed by Samsung Galaxy S which is again surprising since iPhone 4 goes squarely to the third position. It is interesting to note that smartphone vendors are devising newer technologies to overcome the limitations of certain displays. The test does not consider HTC handsets.
