Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Finally Getting Android 2.1 Treatment

Sony Ericsson has announced that it will roll out the Android 2.1 update to its Xperia X10, X10 mini, and X10 mini pro on Sunday.Initially, only phones in the Nordic countries will see the update, with other European countries getting 2.1 starting Monday, November 1. All other X10 phones, including those used in North America, will get their update by the end of November.

It will be interesting to see if sales of the device increase once the update rolls around. The addition of 720p HD video recording with continuous autofocus, five home screens, and a backup-and-restore application make the X10 highly appealing.

The X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro feature completely different hardware, so their respective updates won’t be quite the same. Both devices can look forward to better performance with Bluetooth, an optimized way to handle pictures, text, and numbers, and automatic sync between the contact pictures and Facebook. The backup-and restore-application found with the X10 will also be included.

Sony Ericsson said the update will be rolled out over-the-air in most markets and says that it may require PC software.

Thanks

Ha! Here it is the end of December, and North American AT&T users STILL don’t have the Android 2.1 update.
