Aakash tablet maker DataWind Ltd announced last Thursday that the company has completed the Aakash 2 project by supplying 100,000 Aakash low-cost computing devices for IIT-Bombay (under the Indian Government’s Ministry of Human Resources Development’s National Mission for Education through Information Communication Technology).
Aakash (formerly known as the Ubislate 7+) is the very first in a series of Android-based tablet computers produced by British company DataWind. Aakash is the world’s cheapest wireless tablet and it was officially launched in New Delhi on 5 October 2011. Interestingly, DataWind officially launched the second version of Aakash, called Aakash 2, on the same date next year. Aakash 2 has been made specially for those who are seeking education in catching up with technology. However, DataWind planned to supply 100,000 units of Aakash 2 tablets to the Indian government, to be more specific IIT-Bombay as soon as possible.
Last Thursday, DataWind announced that it has shipped 100,000 Aakash 2 Android tablets for IIT-Bombay. Each tablet costs at $49.98 and comes with 330 MHz processor and 256MB RAM.
