The stand-out feature for this new e-reader from Amazon is the contrast and brightness of its screen. It is also the first e-reader from Amazon with backlight display so that you can read your e-books to your heart’s contentment even in the dark.

The e-reader is a mere 9.1 mm thick and is really light-weight at 7.5 ounces. In the words of the Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos it is “thinner than a magazine and lighter than a paperback.” Bezos stated during the Amazon event today that it took his company four years of research and development to create the light guide for the device which made it possible for this new Kindle to have a better contrast than its predecessors.

Unlike earlier Amazon e-reader, Kindle Paperwhite features a capacitive touchscreen and will become available at a cost of $119. Another version, featuring 3G connectivity, will arrive for a price of $179. If you have plans of laying your hands on this new, very enticing e-reader from Amazon, you will have to wait till October when it is expected to hit the shelves.
