Apple Discussed A $4.5 Billion iPad Deal With Turkey

Apple is, without a doubt, the top vendor in the tablet arena, selling more iPad tablets every quarter than any other company. Over time, iPad has grown beyond being a personal tablet to a tool used in corporate environment as well as in education sector. Turkey is now in talks with Apple to negotiate a $4.5 billion iPad deal.

Turkey-Apple meeting

Naturally, Apple is really eager to seal the deal and has been striving to somehow finalize it. To that end, Apple’s Vice President of Education, John Couch, recently met Turkish President, Abdullah Gul. The primary topic of discussion was Turkey’s intents to provide 15 million iPads to Turkish students and help bolster the education sector.

The project is estimated to cost a whopping $4.5 billion and if indeed Apple seals the deal, it would mean pre-decided sales of iPad tablets into millions of units. However, neither of the two parties have divulged any details about the progress of the deal and the only thing we’ve been told is that the duo are still in negotiations.

Apart from the huge deal, the meeting also involved a brief discussion about the layout of the Turkish ‘F-keyboard.’ The keyboard design comes with a number of keys in wrong positions and Turkish government apparently wishes to fix that problem.

Apple’s enthusiasm in pursuing the deal with Turkey may suggest that the company is finally ready to move out of its home-ground and aggressively market its devices elsewhere.
