Dell has geared up the features on its Latitude 10 tablet, apparently in a bid to appease the government institutions. The major enhancement are primarily linked to security, such as the inclusion of a fingerprint reader. Moreover, the enhanced tablet now offers a whopping 20-hour battery life.
Latitude 10 slate comes with a 10.1-inch screen and the normal version of the tablet comes with a two-cell battery which provides up to 8 hours of battery life. However, the company is now providing the option of including a 4-cell battery into the tablet, which would essentially boast the battery life to 20 hours – in other words, it is a dream come true for many workaholics.
Apart from the battery-life enhancements, the updated tablet also features a smart card and fingerprint reader. These features specifically cater to the needs of government officials who are often in the need to read off data from smart cards and ensure the security on their tablets through features such as a fingerprint reader.
Other regular specs of the tablet include an Intel Atom processor and 64 GB of SSD storage space. The enhanced version of the tablet, including the new security features, is available for a price tag of $779. Add the option of enhanced battery life to the slate and you have to cough up another $55.30.
Dell is trying to position the power of Windows 8 behind this slate, arguing that setting up an organizational network based on Windows is a far easier task, as compared to setting it up on any other platform. The argument seems quite valid, except that contentions have been cited towards the adaptability of users regarding Windows 8.
