Nokia May Launch Windows 8 Tablet By The End Of This Year

The partnership between Nokia and Microsoft has grown quite important for both. Microsoft is relying heavily on Nokia to pitch in its Windows Phone devices and Nokia is counting on the powerful UI of Microsoft to let it deal a fine hand in the smartphone market. All that now depends on how successful Nokia Lumia series will emerge this year. It seems that now, Nokia may be willing to take this partnership even further, with some reports suggesting that it has plans for a Windows 8 tablet.

Since Nokia is already manufacturing a number of Lumia devices which use Microsoft’s Windows Phone, it would seem very natural that Nokia now wants to extend this and also produce Windows-based tablets.

This has been suggested according to a report by DigiTimes. The website claims that the Finnish mobile maker plans to launch a 10-inch tablet which will come with the latest Windows OS, the Windows 8. According to the ‘source’ of DigiTimes, Nokia will be outsourcing the manufacture of the tablet to Compal Electronics, a Taiwan-based company.

However, it is quite hard to say how true or authentic this bit of news may be. We heart last year too that Nokia was planning to launch a Windows 8 tablet. In fact, a Nokia executive also admitted to it. But the company itself never confirmed or refuted the rumor and we didn’t hear of it any more.

But while Nokia’s Windows 8 tablet is still an unconfirmed rumor, Dell and HP may also be working on launching their Windows 8 tablets soon. Given the metro styled interface of Windows 8 and the fact that Microsoft believes it will run perfectly well on a tablet, Windows 8 can capture a huge chunk of the tablet market, a chunk that will necessarily go out of the Android vendors.
