BitTorrent Launches Personal File Syncing App, Competes With Cloud Sharing Services

Large technology companies like Facebook and Twitter use BitTorrent to distribute files across their networks. But, such applications were not available to public, until now. BitTorrent has launched a new file syncing app which allows a user to sync his/her files across multiple devices. This app puts BitTorrent in direct competition with the likes of Dropbox and SkyDrive.

Sync App

The new BitTorrent app is called Sync. Sync makes use of the same BitTorrent protocol which essentially utilizes the P2P technology. What can certainly lend Sync an edge over cloud storage services is the fact that Sync has no space limitation and free of third-party access.

So you can essentially sync up your files, no matter how large they are, with the help of the new app and then access them from multiple devices. Moreover, to make sure that the data stored by the users is secure, Sync will apply 256 bit AES encryption to all file transfers. This means that no third-parties will be able to access your files without your permission.

For now, the app is still in its early stages. BitTorrent has announced that currently, it aims to have the app checked out by pre-alpha testers who may find a few bugs in it, here and there. The Sync app is available for Windows, OS X and Linux; you can lay your hands on it through an invite-only procedure and can sign up for it at BitTorrent Labs.

Once you receive the invite, you simply have to download and install the app, choose a folder to share and then generate a key. Having done that, you are all set to start sharing files across multiple devices as well as with other peers without the slightest hassle. We certainly look forward to an all-out availability of the app soon.
