Naturally, the $10,000 gift card is for the lucky customer who will make the 50 billionth download. But don’t worry if you miss out on it. Apple will also award $500 gift card to the next 50 people who download apps from the marketplace.

While touting the huge achievement, Apple has also compiled a list of free and paid apps that have remained most popular over the years. This list contains many notable apps such as ‘Skype for iPad.’ Google Maps and YouTube are also among the most popular apps whereas Instagram has recently gained a lot of users by jumping from 19th position to the 3rd position in this list.

Of the list of top paid apps, nearly 15 out of 25 apps are games which kind of shows that although users may not normally want to pay for apps, they would eagerly do so in order to pay for games or make in-game purchases. The best example in this regard is that of Angry Birds which has become a sensation across the iOS platform, even when many of its versions are paid.
