JetBlue To Bring Faster In-Flight Wi-Fi

JetBlue Airways is planning to launch fast in-flight Wi-Fi service, considering the move to be a game changer. The new service will be faster than competitor in-flight Wi-Fi services. Recently, the company has sent an e-mail to its employees about its high-speed in-flight Wi-Fi plans. According to the e-mail, JetBlue will roll out high-speed in-flight Wi-Fi in the first quarter of 2013.

The Verge has published the e-mail sent by JetBlue to its employees, explaining its plans. However, a public announcement from JetBlue is expected to be received at World Low Cost Airlines Conference 2012 this week.

JetBlue will be using technologies from ViaSat, which uses different techniques compared to ground-to-air systems and satellite-based systems. The carrier hopes to deliver speeds fast enough to offer in-flight video streaming.

Initially, customers can use JetBlue’s in-flight Wi-Fi for free. However, it will be free for the first 30 airplanes. If the trial is successful, a paid model may be introduced.
