Facebook Seals A Search Partnership With Bing

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg recently announced a new search feature for the social network at a launch event. ‘Graph Search’ is essentially a more sophisticated form of social search. At the event, Zuckerberg also announced that his company has sealed a new search partnership deal with Bing.

Over the years, relationships between Google and Facebook haven’t exactly been amicable. This is partially because of Google’s attempts to gain a foothold into the social media with its Google+ as well as the fact that Google launched kind of a social search of its own with the ‘Search Plus Your World’ feature without lending support to Facebook.

On the other hand, Facebook and Microsoft have gotten along rather well recently. It is probably for this reason that in launching its ‘Graph Search’, Facebook has decided to further expand its partnership with the software giant rather than going for Google.

Speaking about this, Zuckerberg said at the launch event, “We have a great partnership with the team at Microsoft and have worked with them for year. We have been working with the team there for months to build this out.”

He also specifically stated why Facebook had decided in favor of Microsoft, “The main thing is that when people share something on Facebook, we want to give them the ability to broadcast things, but also retract them later, and have them be removed immediately. Microsoft was more willing to do things specific to Facebook.”
