Lady Gaga Is The First Person To Gain 20 Million Twitter Followers

Lady Gaga does not need Twitter followers to calculate her number of fans around the world. The fans she calls “little monsters”. She has her own social networking site for them by the same name. But the fact is that she is the first person to cross 20 million Twitter followers according to Mashable. She got to the threshold on March 3 recently on Saturday. She had already surpassed the previous topper on the list, Britney Spears way back in August 2010 and the latter has a lot of followers to gain on Twitter to come even close to Gaga. Britney has 13.5 million followers on the micro-blogging site.

So if Britney fans are out there on Twitter, they should better gather up to make their favourite star top the list of most-followed. But they have to proverbially beat fans of other musicians to do this. Finding herself way ahead on the Twitter-followers game, Gaga self-proclaimed to be the “Queen of Twitter” as she considers herself to be also the “Queen of Monsters”. The former title is still way better than what she professionally does, but her avid fans are willing to take both titles for her. The only sense of Twitter threat that Gaga could get is from Justin Bieber. According to Twittercounter.com, Bieber might actually have to do more in order to take the crown from her because daily she is being followed by more Twitter users than Bieber.

One of the things which let stars lag behind in gathering momentum on either Twitter or Facebook is that their posts and tweets are often made by their management and not them personally. This leads people to feel unconnected on such a personal social media, where one’s personal voice is important to be heard for having any presence online. The reason why Gaga has managed to gather followers on Twitter is the very same one that she claims to personally have her voice on her tweets. She does regularly use it to interact with her fans, share pictures every now and then and she also utilizes the platform for her promotional activities, like announcement of her shows, appearances and of course next albums.

Another interesting fact is that Twitter is really proving to be a great interactive and promotional platform for musicians as all of the top 5 most-followed people on Twitter are from the American music industry. They are:

  • Lady Gaga (20 million followers)
  • Justin Bieber (18 million followers)
  • Katy Perry (15.7 million followers)
  • Shakira (14.5 million followers)
  • Rihanna (14.4 million followers)
