Mobile App-Maker Cabana Acquired By Twitter

Twitter has been actively trying to expand the scope of its services and do the same work that a number of developers have tried doing by building on its API. Now that the company has greatly limited access to its API, it is indeed in a great position to build on Twitter by dishing out its own web apps. Probably to that end, the micro-blogging site has now acquired the app-maker startup, Cabana.

Twitter

Cabana is a recent startup which has been focusing on creating newer technologies on top of which, mobile apps could be built. Now that Twitter has bought the company, the Cabana staff will be joining the company right away.

However, Cabana’s own app will be allowed to run for a while and will be shut down by December 1. The startup was originally founded by Jeremy Gordon and Reeve Thompson and a number of its team members come from some very well-known companies such as EA, Adobe, Pixar etc.

While we don’t know exactly to what use Twitter intends to employ the Cabana team, it has hinted that it will “build tools to help third-party developers create new experiences on Twitter and empower the larger Twitter ecosystem.”

Apparently, the negotiations between the two entities have been going on for a while which eventually culminated in the final acquisition, “Over the past few months, we’ve gotten to know the Twitter team and discovered the tremendous amount of technological synergy and alignment of our visions. The more we explored this synergy, the more excited we became about joining forces and working together.”
